Our Story

Kelly Zhang created Vision of Grove after hearing Kalyanee Mam, a Cambodian filmmaker and activist discuss the effects of mangrove deforestation on community resilience against cyclones in her school’s Global Scholars event. Combining her experience in research and remote sensing, she created Vision of Grove’s prototype, which she then implemented in partnership with Ecoresolve in the Sundarbans to receive ground truthing feedback. Together, with Peter Fu and Andrew Zhou, the initiative has expanded to reforest over 900 mangroves in partnership with NGOs and integrated higher resolution satellite imagery for increased precision. Future goals include partnerships with local government organizations and expansions to other cyclone prone regions.
